![]() The Local Display is the second zoom down from the Regional Display and shows not only your railroad’s features, but also the local geography and industry. It shows no geography, but only the track, signals, trains, stations, and Station Boxes (if not toggled off) of the player's Railroad. The Area Display is the next zoom down from the Regional Display and is a schematic display of any built railroad. If railroads have started operating, they are visible as well. ![]() It shows the basic geography, including the location of mountains and rivers, and also indicates centers of population. This display gives you the complete picture of the world. The most comprehensive view is the Regional View, where you can view your network from afar. The original game has four main views in which the player can choose to view the game through. Eventually as the game goes on, a larger variety of locomotives are offered, including diesel and electric trains that move efficiently across the network. The game usually starts in the early 1800's where only steam locos are available that are slow and unreliable. There are many different types of cargoes that are supplied and demanded, and the player earns money by taking these cargo to different places through the management of trains. The player then builds stations and track between two cities, where a train can be sent between the two. The company may raise additional capital through the sale of bonds. The company starts with one million dollars in capital half equity, half a loan. The player acts a railway entrepreneur may start companies in any of four geographic locales: the Western United States, Northeast United States, Great Britain, or Continental Europe. Observe your trains in order to find out which parts of your grid need to be upgraded in the first place. The objective of Railroad Tycoon is to build and manage a railroad company by laying track, building stations, and buying and scheduling trains. This is very important, especially near big cities. You mustn't forget about the possibility of creating parallel tracks. Try avoiding bridges and tunnels, especially if you don't have the necessary inventions (they would allow you to lower construction costs). Try leaving an open space, so you'll be able to expand a connection or add some new lines to your existing grid. You should also remember about your future connections. The game will show construction costs, so you won't have any problems figuring out which connection seems to be the most interesting one. Like I've said before, it's very important that you try to move your mouse. If you decide to build tracks using smaller steps, you should be just fine. Building longer connections would mean smaller income, mostly because reaching a target area would take more time. In some cases, you should be able to find an entirely different route to reach a desired city or factory. You should pay attention to your surroundings. ![]() This will allow you to make crucial adjustments. I would recommend building connections using smaller steps. This means that you wouldn't be able to avoid having at least one tunnel. Some of the more expensive connections have to be built, especially if there are mountains in the area. Bear in mind, though, that sometimes it won't be possible. In some cases, you should be able to find a cheaper route. It would be best to try and modify these settings by moving your mouse around. Additionally, the game will often try to create unwanted bridges. Some of the longer connections may be very expensive. I think it was a good idea, however you will have to be very careful. This means that you won't be able to create them on your own, by adding specific objects. I'm sure that you already know that all new tracks are being constructed automatically. Activating the pause option will allow you to plan your each action very carefully, without having to worry about anything else. It's very important that you don't forget about this feature, mostly because you won't have a lot of time to fulfill some of the mission objectives. The game won't limit your actions in any way, so you'll be able to move freely around the map. Important! I'd strongly recommend that you PAUSE the game each time you decide to construct something new.
